Uninstall QuillBot From Mac
I worked through the full removal in order: the subscription first, then the app, the Safari extension, the Word add-in, and the leftover files.

Cancel Your Subscription First
Before I removed anything, I canceled my QuillBot subscription, since deleting the app or browser extension doesn't cancel billing on its own. I found this step is easy to forget once the software is already gone. I logged into my account at quillbot.com, went to subscription settings, and canceled there first. Once that was confirmed, I ran the removal steps below in any order. If you're leaving because of something specific it doesn't do well, my QuillBot Review covers where it falls short. For the rest of my AI Writing Tools coverage, see the full hub.
Remove the QuillBot Desktop App
- I quit QuillBot. When it didn't close normally, I used Force Quit from the Apple menu.
- I opened Finder and clicked Applications in the sidebar.
- I found QuillBot (or "QuillBot for Safari").
- I right-clicked the app icon and selected Move to Trash (dragging it to the Trash icon in the dock works too). Mac prompted me for my password to confirm.
- I right-clicked the Trash icon and chose Empty Trash.
Remove the QuillBot Safari Extension
Following QuillBot's own support documentation, I found two options: disable the extension or remove it fully.
To disable it, I:
- Opened Safari and went to Safari > Settings.
- Clicked Extensions.
- Unchecked QuillBot for Safari.
To fully uninstall it, I:
- Opened Finder and went to Applications.
- Located QuillBot for Safari.
- Right-clicked it and selected Move to Trash (dragging it to the Trash works too).
Remove QuillBot from Chrome or Other Browsers
The same approach works if you installed the QuillBot extension in Chrome, Firefox, or another browser: remove it from that browser's own extensions manager. Most browsers list installed extensions under a menu labeled Extensions or Add-ons, where you can disable or remove each one directly.
Remove the Word Add-In
I didn't find a QuillBot-specific source for this step, so treat this as general Microsoft Word guidance rather than a QuillBot-tested instruction: on Mac, Word add-ins are typically managed from within Word itself rather than through a Mac-level uninstall. I'd open Word, check the Insert tab or Word's add-ins/manage-add-ins menu (the exact location varies by Word version), and remove QuillBot's add-in from there. If it's not listed, restarting Word after uninstalling the main QuillBot app is often enough to clear it.
Clear Leftover Files
Dragging an app to the Trash doesn't always remove everything it left behind, so I checked for leftover QuillBot files too:
- I opened Finder.
- I pressed Cmd + Shift + G to open the "Go to Folder" box.
- I typed
~/Library/Cachesand pressed Return. - I looked for and deleted a folder named something like
com.quillbot.desktop. - I repeated the same check in
~/Library/Application Support/for a fully clean removal.
If the App Won't Delete
When macOS wouldn't let me move QuillBot to the Trash (a sign it was still running in the background), I force quit it via Activity Monitor first, then tried again. If it still won't budge, a Terminal command removes it directly: open Terminal (in Applications > Utilities), and remove the app folder by name. If you're not comfortable with Terminal commands, a general-purpose Mac cleanup utility handles this too, though it's not required for a standard removal. Once QuillBot was gone, I moved on to Free AI Paraphrasing Tools for what to use instead.

Frequently asked questions
How do I delete an app that won't uninstall on my Mac?
I force quit the app via Activity Monitor first, since a running app usually resists being moved to the Trash. If it still won't delete, a Terminal command or a dedicated uninstaller utility removes it directly.
How do I get rid of QuillBot?
I quit the app, then dragged it from Applications to the Trash and emptied the Trash. For a complete removal, I also removed the browser extensions and cleared leftover files from ~/Library/Caches and ~/Library/Application Support/.
How do I remove QuillBot from Safari?
I went to Safari > Settings > Extensions, and either unchecked QuillBot to disable it or removed the "QuillBot for Safari" app from my Applications folder to uninstall it completely.
How do I remove QuillBot from Word on my Mac?
I didn't find a QuillBot-specific source for this step. In general, Word add-ins on Mac are managed from within Word itself: check Word's add-ins menu directly, since the exact location can vary by Word version.
